Is Registration Mandatory?

Technically, the Registration Act, 1908 remains optional for Wills. However, in 2026, it is "practically mandatory." Since the 2025 Amendment removed mandatory probate in cities like Mumbai and Chennai, banks and land registrars now treat a Registered Will as the primary gold standard of authenticity.
